This article answers a common question from Secure Exchanges users on Gmail: are files added by dragging and dropping secured in the same way as other attachments? It also describes what you see on screen depending on whether Secure Exchanges is enabled or disabled when you drop your files.

Yes. If Secure Exchanges is enabled, all attached files will be secured when the email is sent, including the ones you add by dragging and dropping them.

When Secure Exchanges is enabled

When you drag your files onto the email and Secure Exchanges is active, you will see the Secure Exchanges logo appear at the bottom of the area where you are moving your files.

When Secure Exchanges is disabled

Furthermore, if Secure Exchanges is disabled, you will not see its logo at the bottom of the area where you move your files.

Troubleshooting

• The logo does not appear at the bottom of the drop area: Secure Exchanges is most likely disabled for that email. The shield then shows a red "X" instead of the green hook, as explained in How to send attachments without Secure Exchanges using Gmail?.
• The extension is not visible in your browser or your licence is not activated: go back over How do I install and activate Secure Exchanges on Gmail?.
